It's Christmas!!!

Well, no actually it's not. It's the third day of November ....

... so why, when I turned the tv on today, was I greeted by Wizzard screaming at me whilst images of suitable Christmas presents flashed on screen?

I adore Christmas. Around the middle of December, my mental age reverts to six years old. I love the seasonal images, foods, music and scents. I enjoy decorating our home and spending time with those for whom I care. I also like spending time choosing appropriate and hopefully well received gifts for family and friends.

Christmas for me is no longer a celebration of someone's birth but instead is the satisfaction of a deep seated human need for a little light and cheer in the depth of winter.

But I really wish that retailers didn't push the start of Christmas earlier and earlier each year. And instead of making sure little Johnny has the latest console with more games he can possibly play, I wish some of that money could be diverted to more philanthropic activities.

Hey ho ... or should that be ho, ho, ho?

Rhea are you a mind reader or what!? I am just the same! And I was thinking of this just this morning. I look forward to Christmas, I love the sounds, smells - the preparation and anticipation... Christmas Eve and waking up on Christmas morning. I've loved it ever since I was a child.
I don't like the overly commercial aspects of it, but I find that I can sidestep most of that. This year in Canada (at least in Toronto) the retailer Christmas season is getting well underway now - but it is November now, so I expect it!

Hello and welcome Sean, I'll certainly check out your site.

Britgirl - hehe. I think there's something vaguely magical about it all. The rational 30-something me knows it's no such thing but it's good once in a while to let the six year old believer out to play. :o)

Completely agree. I went out for a pub lunch on 1st September - and there was a Christmas menu on the table with 'book early for Xmas' all over it. It was still almost four months away!!! That's one-third of a year!!! Aarrgghhh!!!!!
